Effect of segmentation of k-space in SSFP flow artifacts

چکیده
Background Steady State Free Precession is a fast technique with high contrast between myocardium and blood in cardiovascular MR imaging. According to the time consuming data acquisition and short cardiac cycle (almost 0.9 second), data is obtained in several heartbeats depending on the number of frames and K-space size. The K-Space is divided to segments and each segment is acquired in one cardiac cycle. However, spins in the flowing blood do not experience enough pulses to reach the steady state condition. As a result, shadows called flow artifacts appear in images. In this study, we investigate the flow artifacts and in particular, how the number of frames (or segments) and in-plane velocity affect them.

Automated Assessment of Ghost Artifacts in MRI
Introduction: Flow artifacts in MR images can appear as image ghosts within and outside the body cavity. Technical improvements aimed at suppressing these image ghosts often rely on expert scoring (1,2) or on semi-automated methods demanding tissue segmentation and estimation of statistical properties of intensity distribution (3) to evaluate the efficacy of the methods. These approaches can be...
متن کاملFlow compensation in non-balanced SSFP
Introduction. Non-balanced steady-state free precession sequences (SSFP-FID and SSFP-echo) are gradient-spoiled pulse sequences that provide high signal even in presence of long T1 values, because the transverse magnetization is not completely incoherent by means of radiofrequency spoiling. Contrary to balanced SSFP sequences they do not suffer from off-resonance banding artifacts, making them ...

M. Markl, J. Leupold, J. Hennig Diagnostic Radiology, Medical Physics, University Hospital Freiburg, Freiburg, Germany Introduction: k-space segmented time-resolved (CINE) balanced SSFP imaging is widely used in cardiac MR-imaging [1]. Drawbacks include sensitivity to the disruption of the steady state and limitations regarding non-linear k-space reordering which is problematic for SSFP imaging...
متن کاملAccelerating Magnetic Resonance Imaging through Compressed Sensing Theory in the Direction space-k
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a noninvasive imaging method widely used in medical diagnosis. Data in MRI are obtained line-by-line within the K-space, where there are usually a great number of such lines. For this reason, magnetic resonance imaging is slow. MRI can be accelerated through several methods such as parallel imaging and compressed sensing, where a fraction of the K-space lines...
متن کاملA Novel Spot-Enhancement Anisotropic Diffusion Method for the Improvement of Segmentation in Two-dimensional Gel Electrophoresis Images, Based on the Watershed Transform Algorithm
Introduction Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DGE) is a powerful technique in proteomics for protein separation. In this technique, spot segmentation is an essential stage, which can be challenging due to problems such as overlapping spots, streaks, artifacts and noise. Watershed transform is one of the common methods for image segmentation. Nevertheless, in 2DGE image segmentation, the no...
